You’ve never experienced flexibility in the workplace like this

Wouldn’t you like a job that fits in with your lifestyle? When seeking out a new career, you want a job you can feel passionate about and enjoy going to each day. You also want one that will provide you with a better work life balance.

Flexibility in working arrangements is not always easy to find, but we know just where you can look.

Consider a career in aged care

Consider a career in aged care work and you could become one of the many workers across Australia who make a valuable contribution to the daily lives of thousands of older people.

Find your way into the industry with an aged care course such as the CHC33015 – Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing). This is an aged care course for anyone who wants to get started working in this area. This entry-level qualification is ideal if you are looking for a career change, are re-entering the workforce, or if you just want a meaningful and rewarding career in an expanding industry area.

You will learn how to provide individualised support for the elderly, recognise healthy body systems, work with diverse people, support independence and well being, work legally and ethically and follow safe work practices when working with clients. You’ll also complete at least 120 hours of work placement in order to complete this aged care course, giving you practical skills that you can take with you out into the workforce. Possible job outcomes include assistant in nursing, care worker, care service employee, personal care assistant, community care worker or support worker.

Day work, night work or weekends

Aged care work happens around the clock. You might work as a residential care worker in a facility setting or take care of older clients within their own homes. Some of these roles offer regular 9am-5pm working hours, but there are many that also offer more flexible hours and working arrangements.

This means there are night shift options, weekend work, day work or a combination of all of these. If you’re a parent, you might consider night work to give you more time to spend with your children during the day. Or, if you’re looking to supplement your existing income, you might consider working in aged care just on the weekends.

You can seek permanent, casual or contract work too, depending on the level of flexibility you require. Whatever your needs are, there’s an aged care work arrangement that fits in with your lifestyle.

Further study and promotions

Once you’re working in the industry you can chose to continue your studies with an aged care course like the CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support too. This qualification will equip you with the skills you need to work with ageing clients with more complex needs. This may prepare you for a promotion (and an increase in salary) in a supervisory or team leader role in the aged care industry.
