Preparing for the World of Work

"Our school model mirrors the workplace—fostering independence, responsibility, and real-world expectations to prepare students for a successful future."

Elissa Cosentino | ETASC Careers Coordinator

At ETASC, we promote mutual respect, valuing students as individuals and treating them as equals, much like in the workplace. Our positive and supportive environment allows them to thrive, and grow with guidance. By Year 10, students are fully engaged in school life, and their curiosity about the future begins to flourish.

This important year encourages students to explore their interests, passions, and future pathways. Through hands-on experiences and opportunities, we inspire them to think critically about life beyond school and prepare for what lies ahead.

Pathway Planning

At ETASC, we start career conversations early, beginning in Year 7, so students can explore their goals and interests with guidance from our Principal and staff.

From Year 10 onwards, students have two dedicated Pathway Plan meetings each year to refine their plans for senior school, work, or further study. Our Principal joins at least one of these meetings, and we encourage parents and carers to be involved, ensuring every student feels supported in building a future that suits them.

Work Experience Program

In Year 10, students complete two rounds of work experience, gaining valuable hands-on insights into potential career paths. With the support of local businesses that host our students, our Work Experience Coordinators work closely with each individual to ensure they gain practical experience in their chosen field. This program helps students build confidence, develop essential skills, and understand workplace expectations, ultimately empowering them to make informed decisions about their future—whether that’s pursuing further education, vocational training, or entering the workforce.

SYNC Career

SYNC (Skills You Need Consolidating) is a semester-long Year 10 program designed to equip students with essential skills for life beyond school. The program features two key units:

  • SYNC Independence Days – Focuses on real-world skills like budgeting, home and car maintenance, and financial independence to support students as they transition into adulthood.
  • SYNC Careers – Prepares students for the workforce by developing enterprise skills, resume building, and job interview techniques. Students also gain hands-on experience through ETASC’s work experience program.

Through SYNC, students consolidate classroom learning and apply it to real-life scenarios, ensuring they are ready for further education or the workplace.

Future Me Week

Future Me Week is a program filled with hands-on workshops, inspiring guest speakers, and valuable presentations to help students build life skills and gain career insights.

Workshops include:
Budgeting and money management
Resilience and well-being
Employability skills and resume writing
Insights from industry experts

Careers Camp

To wrap up, Year 10 students attend the ‘Careers Camp,’ an overnight trip to Sydney where they explore various industries and educational paths. Students visit institutions like the University of Sydney, The Makeup Academy, AFTRS (Australian Film and Television School), and Sydney TAFE, gaining valuable insights into potential careers and inspiring them to plan for their future.
