Welcome to Term 2, 2026!

Principal’s News

A strong start to the year
Term 1 set a positive tone for 2026, with students and staff working together to build a productive learning environment. Our focusĀ remainsĀ on supporting every student who makes a genuine effort to engage with their education. We continue to encourage behaviour and ethics that contribute to a respectful and supportive school community.Ā

Preparing students for the world of work
Our school model mirrors workplace expectations, helping students develop the skills and habits they will need beyond school. Pathway PlansĀ remainĀ a key part of this approach. These plans guide students in setting vocational goals, exploring opportunities, and making informed decisions about their future.Ā

In 2026, all students in Years 7, 10, 11 and 12 willĀ participateĀ in Pathway Plan interviews. I will meet with every Year 7 student personally, with interviews beginning in Term 3. I also aim to attend Years 10, 11 and 12 interviews whenever parents and carers are present.Ā

Our Student Learning Support and Careers Coordinators, Jas and Elissa, continue toĀ monitorĀ and follow up on every Years 10, 11 and 12 plan to ensure students receive the support they need.Ā

Supporting student learning
Across all classrooms and programs, our dedicated staff work each day to help students reach their academic potential. We are grateful for the positive feedback from parents and carers—it reinforces the value of the work we do.Ā

If you have any concerns or information that may help us support your child, please contact the school. Working together ensures the best possible experience for every student.Ā

For the safety, security, and well-being of all students, parents and carers are reminded that access to the Years 7-10 campus is limited. When visiting the school, please do notĀ proceedĀ past the planter boxes positioned near Reception.Ā

This boundary helps usĀ maintainĀ appropriate supervision, support child protection requirements, and ensure a safe learning environment for all students.Ā

Please report to the reception desk, where staff will be happy toĀ assistĀ you.Ā

We appreciate your cooperation and support in helping us keep our school community safe.

Parent Information Session
Supporting Your Child’s Career JourneyĀ

Parents and carers fromĀ YearsĀ 7 – 12 are invited to attend an engaging online presentation withĀ Alana Kilmartin, founder ofĀ Unserious Careers. The session will take place onĀ Monday 25 May 2026 from 7:00pm – 7:45pm via Zoom and will include a short presentation followed by aĀ live Q&A.Ā

In this inspiring session,Ā BuildingĀ a Strong Career Support Team, Alana will share insights from her work with overĀ 250 high schools across Australia and from her bookĀ Unserious Careers. The presentation is designed to help parents better understand how to support their young person as they explore future career possibilities.Ā

With the world of work rapidly changing, many parents are asking questions such as:Ā Will their job even exist in 10 years?Ā orĀ HowĀ do I guide my child when careers look so different to when I was at school? This session will explore these questions andĀ provideĀ practical guidance on how parents can support their children during important decision-making stages.Ā

Alana will discuss why every young person’s pathway is unique and how parents can help their children navigate subject choices, career exploration, and the transition from school into further study or work. She will also introduce key ideas such as theĀ ā€œCasual Jog Yearsā€,Ā explain what aĀ ā€œCareer Fanā€ā€Æis, and highlight why the support of parents becomes even more important once school has finished.Ā

This session will be valuable for parents whose child may feel unsure about their future, lacks motivation to talk about careers, is considering a gap year, or has chosen a pathway that raises questions.Ā

Registration for the Zoom presentation will be managed by Unserious Careers.Ā

To register and access the event, please visit:
https://www.trybooking.com/DKHHFĀ

We encourage all parents and carers to join this informative and practical session.Ā ETASC has covered the cost of this session.

School Fees

A reminder to parents/carersĀ that ETASC is aĀ fee-payingĀ college and the contributions made provide opportunitiesĀ forĀ students toĀ participateĀ in a variety of different learning experiences.

It is a requirement of a student’s enrolment that school feesĀ areĀ paid by parents/carers and failure to pay fees will result in the student’s enrolment being withdrawn.

Scholarships are available to families who areĀ experiencingĀ financialĀ hardshipĀ and we encourage all parents/carers to apply for scholarships if they are struggling to pay school fees. InformationĀ regardingĀ school fees, payment plans,Ā and scholarships are available on theĀ College website.

Regular Pattern of School Attendance Required by StudentsĀ

A reminder to parents/carers that for their child to continue their enrolment at theĀ College, students need toĀ maintainĀ a consistent pattern of attendance.Ā

The New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA) requires all students to have a minimum attendance percentage of 85% throughout the year.Ā

This means theĀ College expects every student to attend school every day unless they are too sick to attend.Ā In the event ofĀ absence caused by illness, theĀ College requires an explanation of the absence within 24 hours of the student’s absence. Notification can be provided viaĀ the CompassĀ Portal,Ā email, or phone call.Ā In the event ofĀ three or more consecutive days off, theĀ College can request a medical certificate to support the provided reasons. If you have other reasons for a student being absent for the day (family emergency for example) please provide theĀ College office with an explanation so we can account for the student’s absence.Ā

For more information on school attendance please refer to the College Handbook relevant to you:Ā

Years 7 to 10 College HandbookĀ
Years 11 and 12 College Handbook

ReportingĀ aĀ Student’sĀ AbsenceĀ Ā

It is a government requirement for parents/carers to notify and provide a reason for their child’s absence from school on every occasion. To ensure notifications are always received and recorded by theĀ appropriate staffĀ members, a generic email address can be used for absentee notifications. We request this email address be used rather than emailing individual staff members. This will ensure the notification is received byĀ theĀ ReceptionĀ staff,Ā regardless of who is working on the day. Where an explanation has not been received within 7 days from the first day of any period of absence, the school will record this as unexplainedĀ on the student’s record.Ā

Methods for notifying the school of absencesĀ are:
Email:Ā attendance@etaustralia.com
Phone: 02 4323 1233 after 8:30am
Via the Compass AppĀ

When your child is absent from school and we have not been notified, an email and push notification via CompassĀ will be sent to inform you of their absence which you are able to reply to.Ā Parents/Carers canĀ sign intoĀ the Compass PortalĀ andĀ enterĀ an attendance note forĀ theirĀ child for futureĀ and past absences.Ā

COVID-19,Ā OtherĀ IllnessesĀ and School AttendanceĀ

ET Australia follows NSW Health guidelines to minimise COVID-19 transmission, keeping schools open and the community safe.Ā Ā

NSW Health advice is that if a student is unwell and has any symptoms, they should always test for COVID-19. If the test comes back negative for COVID-19, the student should still not return to school until the student no longer has any symptoms. NSW Health advises that it is important that students do not attend school if they are unwell. COVID-19, other viruses, influenza, common colds, and stomach bugs can all be contagious. Health advice is that students who are sick should always stay home to rest and recover and avoid putting other students and staff at risk of getting sick. Students who present with symptoms at school will be sent home immediately and will not be able to return to school until they no longer have symptoms.Ā

Request for Student LeaveĀ

The Department of Education’s requirement for school attendance also affects opportunities for families to take holidays during school terms. Some schools are withdrawing theĀ optionĀ of families taking students out of school for holidays. ETASC is flexible, but the MinisterĀ forĀ Education requires us to ensure all student leave during term time be approved by theĀ College Principal in advance. A Student Leave Request form is available from reception and needs to be completed 4 weeks prior to the planned absence from school.Ā

Please contact the College office on 02 4323 1233 if you have any further queries about holidays during school terms.Ā

ET Australia Secondary College – AĀ non-smoking High SchoolĀ

ETASC is a non-smokingĀ SecondaryĀ College for ALL students and staff – this includes the use of vape pens and e-cigarettes.Ā

Students who are caught smoking cigarettesĀ or usingĀ vape pens or e-cigarettes during school hours will have their cigarettes, vape pens or e-cigarettes confiscated and destroyed. Parents/Carers will be contacted to inform them of this behaviour.Ā

Advice from NSW Health clearly outlines that it is illegal to sell cigarettes,Ā vape pens andĀ e-cigarettes or accessories to,Ā or buy these products on behalf of,Ā a person under 18 years of age.Ā

Please visitĀ https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/tobacco/Pages/e-cigarettes.aspxĀ for more information from NSW Health.Ā

Any student smoking during school hours will be in breach of school rules and will be treated the same way as any other breach of school rules. Repeat offenders will be placed on a school contract that will stipulate the behaviourĀ requiredĀ toĀ maintainĀ their enrolment at theĀ College. The school contract with the student will include the provision of access to quit smoking programs and access to theĀ College psychologist to develop strategies to use instead of smoking during the school day. Breaching the school contract will result in the student’s expulsion from theĀ College.Ā

Contacting Students in Class TimeĀ

Please do not phone your child during class time, they will be tempted to answer which is very disruptive to the class. Their phone should be off and out of sight. Parents/Carers who need to contact their child during school hours are asked to do so by calling theĀ College office on 4323 1233 orĀ toĀ wait until break times.

If students continue to bring these items to school,Ā appropriate actionĀ will be takenĀ in accordance withĀ the consequences for breaches of the expected behaviours outlined at enrolment and in theĀ Years 7 to 10 College HandbookĀ andĀ Years 11 and 12 College Handbook.Ā

Medication Taken at SchoolĀ

InĀ accordanceĀ withĀ our First Aid and Medications Policy, parents/carers areĀ requiredĀ to complete an Authorisation for Administration of Student Medication form for any medicationĀ thatĀ is required toĀ be dispensed during school hours.Ā

Positive Behaviour Management and RewardsĀ

ETASC’s Positive Student Behaviour Reward system includes short-term, medium-term, and long-term rewards. Reward days,Ā which occurĀ onceĀ eachĀ semester,Ā are the pinnacle reward of this system.Ā

Short Term Rewards – Fortnightly Basis
Short-term rewards will occur on a fortnightly basis and be awarded to one student from each class based on their behaviour in the previous two weeks. Teachers will consider the number of positive behaviour reports or in-class points awarded, the student’s attendance during this time and any noticeable changes in a student’s behaviour. Students will be informed of their positive award in a manner that is comfortable to them – during the whole school assembly, stage assembly, class time or on an individual basis.Ā

Short-term rewardsĀ include,Ā but are not limitedĀ to:Ā

  • ChocolatesĀ
  • Free lunch – pizza,Ā etc.Ā
  • BooksĀ
  • Trinkets, toys, stationery,Ā etc.Ā

Medium Term Rewards – Term Basis

The accumulation of positive behaviour reports over a term will earn students medium-term rewards. A schedule of rewards will be provided to the students at the beginning of each term. The accumulation of positive behaviour reports over the term will earnĀ studentsĀ rewards.Ā

The number of positive behaviour reportsĀ requiredĀ to achieve specific medium-term rewards includes:Ā

# Of Positive Behaviour Reports Reward:Ā

  • 25 – Qualifies student to attend semester reward dayĀ
  • 30 – Listen to music during class time for one weekĀ
  • 40 – 5-minute early mark at the end of the school day for one weekĀ
  • 50 – Free lunch order to the value of $10Ā

Long Term Rewards – Semester Basis

The long-term reward for sustained positive student behaviour is an invitation to attend the reward days held at the end of each semester. Students will be invited to attend our reward day if they have accumulated at least 25 positive behaviour reports during the semester. If a student is invited to a rewards day and engages in negative behaviour before the event, their invitation can be revoked. Reward day activities are intended to be fun days with activities that students want toĀ participateĀ in.Ā

Our reward days so far have included:Ā

  • Go-kartingĀ
  • Jet boatsĀ
  • ClipĀ & ClimbĀ
  • Laser tagĀ
  • Mini golfĀ

InĀ determiningĀ whether students are entitled to attend a reward day the following will be considered:Ā

  • The number of positive and negative behaviour reports a student has received.Ā
  • School attendance – students need toĀ maintainĀ a regular pattern of attendance.Ā
  • Outstanding school fees – aĀ student’s school fees need to be no more than 1 month in arrears to be eligible to attend reward days.Ā
  • School Contract – if a student has been placed on a school contract, they areĀ deemedĀ ineligible to attend reward days. Exceptions on a case-by-case basis may be considered by the AssistantĀ PrincipalĀ but this is not negotiable.Ā

If parents/carers have questionsĀ regardingĀ the positive behaviour system, we welcome feedback and questions so please contact the Assistant Principal.Ā

Assessments

At the start of the term,Ā a message will be sent throughĀ Compass with an outline of each assessment task and the due date. Many tasks require students to research and write responses outside of class time. Remember to take advantage of the after-school session from 3:00pm-4:00pm where teachers are available to answer questions. These tasks require students to work on them throughout the term and are not designed to be done in one night. If a student isĀ absentĀ on the day an assessment task is due, please ensure theĀ Illness/MisadventureĀ FormĀ is completed, with documentary evidence and emailed toĀ Christina.Clark@etaustralia.comĀ within 24 hours.
