This individual support training is subsidised by the NSW Government under the Smart and Skilled initiative (eligibility criteria applies).
The program has been designed to meet an industry need for entry-level workers in the aged care sector.
This accredited individual support qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing.
Students will learn how to meet the personal support needs of the older person, support their independence and well-being, use safe working practices for direct care work, and will learn how to work effectively in the aged care sector.
The combination of classroom-based learning with on the job training and work placement provides the foundations required to work with aged people.
During the program, students must complete a minimum of 120 hours of clinical placement providing direct care support in at least one aged care, home and community, or community services organisation. Students will practice their skills under supervision in an aged care facility. Placement will help students to develop and consolidate skills and knowledge in a clinical environment. Placement also allows students to become familiar with employer expectations and broaden industry understanding. 100% attendance of placement in an aged care facility is required.
Training Days: Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays
Dates: 23 October 2019 – 11 March 2020
Please note, If 120 hours of work placement hours aren’t achieved during this training period, students will have the opportunity to continue the work placement to complete the remaining hours.
Venue: ET Australia Training College, 125 Donnison Street, Gosford 2250 (for classroom-based sessions). On the job training venues and work experience venues to be confirmed.
