CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care

With the CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, you will learn about children’s development and wellbeing, service leadership and management, program design and implementation, children’s behaviour and inclusion plus more.
The program is designed for people currently working in an education and care setting. It is perfect if you are looking to start your career in early childhood, as well as if you are looking for a qualification to enable career progression into supervisory roles.
Regulations require: –
- For centre-based services – 50 per cent of educators required to meet the relevant ratios in the service must have, or be actively working towards, at least an approved diploma level education and care qualification.
- For family day care services – All family day care coordinators must hold an approved diploma level education and care qualification.
This program is designed for those who are already working in a regulated education and care service as practical application on the job is mandatory for successful completion of this qualification.
Successful completion of the qualification can lead to a range of possible career opportunities in children’s services including authorised supervisor, centre manager, childhood educator, children’s service director / manager, children’s service coordinator, child development worker, program leader, group / team coordinator / leader.
The 28 units of study that comprise the qualification include:
- 23 core unit plus
- 5 elective units

Applicants must be working in a regulated educated and care setting and supported by a regulated service to ensure access for application of learning and for assessment purposes.
Applicants must have the physical capacity to meet the demands of working with infant to school aged children.
A Working with Children Check (WWCC) is a requirement for completion of this qualification. People working with children (including trainees and students undertaking a work placement) must have a WWCC clearance number prior to attending a service. Students may be granted credit for units of competency successfully completed which overlap between community services sectors allowing for pathways across sectors. Graduates may progress their studies onto Higher Education in Early Childhood and Primary Teaching.
Study modes for this qualification include:
Self-paced learning – Allows learners the flexibility to study at times that are suitable. Learners can work through learning material independently knowing that a dedicated Trainer and Assessor will guide them through the training and assessment process and be available for support when required. This mode of study suits students who have good time management skills and who don’t need structured face to face sessions. Access to a workplace is needed for successful completion of this qualification.
Employment based traineeship – An employment based traineeship allows for delivery on the job with a Trainer and Assessor conducting workplace monitoring and assessment. Duration – 24 months full time (part time traineeships also available). If a trainee holds a CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care the traineeship term is reduced to 18 months. Eligibility criteria applies.
