BSB42015 – Certificate IV in Leadership and Management

The BSB42015 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management is ideal for anyone aspiring to move into the first line of management where they are required to supervise others.

You will learn a variety of leadership and management skills including operational planning, providing guidance and leadership to others, developing effective teams, risk management, developing work priorities plus more.

You will already be in the workforce and will be engaged, or preparing to be engaged, to supervise the work of others.

Potential career outcomes for graduates include team leader, supervisor, leading hand, and coordinator.

They apply solutions to a defined range of predictable and unpredictable problems, and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources.


The 12 units of competency that comprise the qualification include:

  • 8 elective units

There are no formal entry requirements.

Students will require well developed language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills relevant to the context of his or her role. LLN skills will be evaluated during the enrolment process to ensure that persons enrolling in the program have the skills to complete all training and assessment.

This program has been designed for a student who is employed. Students must have the support of their workplace to undertake their study. Students must have the opportunity to complete assessment tasks in the context of the workplace.


Study Pathways; Students who successfully complete this qualification may consider furthering their studies to a higher level in a related field eg BSB51915 Diploma of Leadership and Management.


Study modes for this qualification include:

Self-paced learning – Allows learners the flexibility to study at times that are suitable. Learners can work through learning material independently knowing that a dedicated Trainer and Assessor will guide them through the training and assessment process and be available for support when required. This mode of study suits students who have good time management skills and who don’t need structured face to face sessions. Access to a workplace is needed for successful completion of this qualification.

Employment based traineeship – An employment based traineeship allows for delivery on the job with a Trainer and Assessor conducting workplace monitoring and assessment. Duration – 24 months full time (part time traineeships also available). Eligibility criteria applies. Note, where a trainee holds an approved Certificate III level qualification eg BSB30415 Certificate III in Business Administration, the full time training term is reduced to 18 months.
