CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing)

Note: The program hours are Centrelink approved and are considered to be full-time over the period.

Kick start your career in aged care with the CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing). This entry level qualification is for anyone who wants to work in the aged care industry.

This program is ideal if you are looking for a career change, you are re-entering the workforce or you just want a meaningful and rewarding career in an expanding industry area.

You could be one of the many aged care workers who make a valuable contribution to the daily lives of many thousands of older people across Australia.

The qualification will provide you with the training necessary for entry level positions. You will learn how to provide individualised support for the elderly, recognise healthy body systems, work with diverse people, support independence and wellbeing, work legally and ethically and follow safe work practices when working with clients.

Practical application of skills and knowledge in an aged care service is required for successful completion of this qualification.

Possible job outcomes include assistant in nursing, care worker, care service employee, personal care assistant, community care worker, support worker.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work placement as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.


The 13 units of competency that comprise the qualification include:

  • 7 core unit plus
  • 6 elective units

There are no formal entry requirements however all successful applicants are required to undertake a criminal history check to meet workplace regulatory requirements.

Applicants must have the functional capacity and fitness to perform the tasks and duties necessary for work in the aged care sector. In order to complete the practical components of this program applicants must demonstrate a level of maturity and discretion.

Applicants are required to have adequate literacy, numeracy and communication skills to successfully complete the assessment work / perform the tasks necessary on work placement.

Applicants must be prepared to undertake work placement in an aged care setting during which they will undertake activities that involve providing personal care to clients. This is a mandatory requirement for successful completion of this qualification.

Some of our partnering host work placement facilities require students to provide immunization documentation prior to being present on site. Given this, it is recommended at a minimum that students have a flu vaccination and the commencement (at least) of Hepatitis B.


Students who successfully complete this qualification could progress their studies to CHC43015 – Certificate IV in Ageing Support.


Study modes for this qualification include:

Classroom based learning – A structured training program delivered via classroom based sessions. Classroom based learning allows students to participate in group activities, group learning and group discussion.

Employment based traineeship – An employment based traineeship allows for delivery on the job with a Trainer and Assessor conducting workplace monitoring and assessment. Duration – 12 months full time (part time traineeships also available). Eligibility criteria applies.
